Overview

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Austin at 2700 S Congress Ave, RAS MODERN INDIAN offers a fresh take on Indian cuisine fused with a modern twist. This lively spot captivates both locals and visitors seeking bold flavors and generous portions in a casual, approachable setting. Though operating primarily as a food truck with seating available in the neighboring grocer, RAS blends convenience with quality that feels anything but quick.

The menu is a celebration of Indian classics reimagined with a contemporary edge. Highlights like the Samosa Chaat deliver comforting spice and texture, while the Garbanzo Bowl and Okra Masala Bowl showcase vibrant vegan and gluten-free options, catering well to diverse dietary needs. For meat lovers, dishes like the Chicken 65—crispy, spiced, and served with a tangy yogurt curry sauce—and the rich Kofta Korma Bowl cooked with cardamom and cloves stand out as deeply satisfying choices.

One of the standout experiences here is the all-day fried rice menu, where lamb, chicken, or vegetable options come alive with aromatic cumin, soy, and Schezwan spices. The fusion flavor profile hints at Indian-Chinese culinary influences, offering a delightful departure from traditional fare. Snack lovers will appreciate the generous, spicy fries that have earned rave reviews for their crispiness and heat, perfect as an accompaniment to any meal.

Customer experiences frequently mention the warmth and attentiveness of the owners, who elevate the dining experience with genuine hospitality—including thoughtful touches like dog treats for furry companions. This personal connection makes RAS feel less like a typical food truck and more like a community hub where authentic food meets friendly faces.

The food’s freshness and vibrant flavors create an irresistible draw, prompting many patrons to return quickly and often. While some note the pricing as slightly on the higher side for a food truck, the quality, portion sizes, and flavor complexity justify the value for many. The location near a cool convenience store with fun snacks and drinks adds a convenient layer for those on the go or looking to browse while they wait.

Overall, RAS MODERN INDIAN excels in delivering thoughtfully crafted dishes that honor Indian culinary traditions while embracing modern presentation and convenience. It appeals broadly—from casual diners craving quick, robust meals to food adventurers eager to explore innovative Indian-inspired flavors in Austin’s eclectic food scene.

Best fries in ATX, hands down. Spicy, crispy, HOT and with Five Guys portions. Cannot stress how fresh and hot this food is. Literally burned my mouth a full 15 min after getting our order and sitting down. Very tasty classics (tikka + butter chicken) and several 10/10s besides: chicken 65, kofta korma, and naan. We went back the next night because I felt like I hadn’t left a big enough tip the day before. The owners were super sweet, accommodating, and kind. Support them!

First time eating here, you order in the Cork&Brew market at the counter. Great customer service, QR code scan to see full menu on truck right outside. Pick up food at truck when you are texted. I ordered the Southern Fried Chicken burger with seasoned fries. The fries were amazing, a little spicy and the burger was great! Will definitely come again soon.

Great find. The breakfast tacos are supreme, the cold brew coffee yummy, and the owner is such a lovely person to chat with. He was super loving to our doggy and gave her treats and water. Give it a try, you won't regret it!

Samosa chat was good and tasty. Not much Indian options. There was no Indian TEA. It’s a food truck. Looked clean and neat from outside. There are seating arrangements in the grocer. There are parking spots available too. Need to order in the grocer store or from the app. I felt Little bit over priced.

The was exemplerary. Food truck had the west side vibe The tikka masala was as much from the Pind as from the parks of Phily! Desi-Amreeki fusion at its best in SW Austin, probably all of Austin! God bless hermano, who toils in front of the burner come hell or high water , feeding the equally hardworking white collar citizens’! There’s a store beside the shop, Cork & Brew. Great collection of food and counter culture nutrition The staff are extremely courteous and friendly! Fine example of the American Dream, which is possible, no matter where you are from, what color your skin is! The #Parls are north of $10… Welcome to Pind, Philiy, Paris, Peru and Palestine! Welcome to SW Austin Welcome to a truly global capital city destination

Just learned that this Indian food truck has breakfast tacos too and they are delicious! Great quality ingredients and they pack a lot in one taco. Right next to the cork and brew market which also serves good coffee drinks. The samosa chaat is another favorite from their menu - try it, you won’t be disappointed!
